Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review: Specifications, Price & Availability

In the telecom equipment sector, the giant Huawei has been trying to establish himself in a league like Apple and Samsung for a long time. Huawei’s association with Google for Nexus 6P is probably the same as the first time that the company has given a massive global identity to the company.

In the successive years, Huawei played on the front foot and launched several industry-first innovations (mostly related to the phone camera), combining RGB and monochrome sensors, the use of high quality lenses, computational photography and much more.

Launched in the beginning of last year, P20 Pro has managed to capture the attention of all and also the best rated camera in it, it was still not with big boys. The Kirin 970 was not comparable to the Snapdragon 845 to power the phone and there were some rough edges to polish the EMUI software.

The new Mate 20 Pro integrates all necessary changes and refinement, which includes a very capable 7nm process based Kirin 980 mobile platform. Did Huawei finally succeed in distributing a leading-leading flagship? Let’s see

What We Get In Box

The Mate 20 Pro box package is nothing remarkable. It packs Huawei’s 2018 flagship with the necessary external devices. Here’s what you’ll find in the Mate 20 Pro box:

  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro Phone
  • USB Type-C Cable
  • Huawei 40W Supercharger
  • Sim ejector device
  • Huawei Type Sea Earphones
  • Type-C connector cable from Huawei 3.5m
  • Transparent plastic case
  • Documentation / Quick Start Guide

Display, Fingerprint and Face Unlock

Now let’s talk about Mate 20 Pro display. The handset is equipped with a 6.39-inch curved OLED screen from BOE, which can provide a resolution of 2K +. Quality is impressive, to say the least. In fact, Samsung AMOLED is far deeper than what we get on the phone, and it’s saying something.

For color calibration, users can choose between sRGB (normal) and DCI-P3 (Vivid) color gamut. I usually go to the Huawei phone for the normal profile but preferably well on calibrated DCI-P3 or vivid mode on Mate 20 Pro. To preserve the battery, Huawei has added a Smart Resolution in Mate 20 Pro, which automatically toggles between 2K and FHD + resolution.

Personally, till now I have enjoyed viewing content or playing games on the MET 20 Pro screen. Widevine L1 certification is required for streaming HD and HDR content from services such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime and more.

Moving forward, the Mate 20 Pro screen is also equipped with an in-display finger scanner, which according to Huawei’s claim, is 30% faster than the synaptic sensor, which we see in Vivo and Oppo phones. Well, in the day-to-day Dynamic Pressure Sensor of Mate 20 Pro, really feel like a snapper compared to any other UD sensor, which we have tested so far. It’s just millisecond slow compared to regular capacitive sensor.

In addition, there is a fancy face unlock feature such as an Apple Face ID which uses the 3D depth sensor and dot projector present in the footpath. In the beginning, we were a bit confused, but it works effectively in light and dark environments (well, most of the time).

Design and Build Quality

In my opinion, Mate 20 Pro is the most attractive device that Huawei has distributed so far. The moment you catch the Mate 20 Pro, you know it as a premium for every bit. Or perhaps even more.

Yes, it gets a lot with the Samsung Galaxy S9 +. Thanks to the double curved display and symmetrical designs, but there are many things that confirm its originality. For example, the Mate 20 Pro is a large 6.39-inch display, contrasting red housing on the power button, and the Porsche Spider’s Matrix headlights, inspired by round-square camera modules, despite being eligible to design, the S9 + Is more compact than. Huawei has added a well-equipped niche and the thinner chin on top (thanks to folding OLED).

Notch has everything:

  • Selfie camera
  • Earpiece (also act as a secondary speaker)
  • Infrared camera
  • Flood illuminator
  • Gyroscope sensor
  • Proximity sensor
  • LED Notification light

Even though Huawei has packed a stronger version of Face Unlock, the company has continued to include a fingerprint sensor, which is embedded at the bottom of the screen (more on later). Both the front and rear are the Gorilla Glass, although Huawei chooses not to specify its exact version.

I am using the Mate 20 Pro Emerald Green Variant, in which there is a microscopic pattern (Huawei calls it a hyper-optical pattern) that you can feel it while still spinning it. This makes the phone less slippery and less prone to fingerprint memory than normal glass back phones.

The metal running with sides is basically mixed with the rail glass. We Power button and volume rocker are positioned on the right edge. The left edge is a clean slate.

At the top edge, you will see an IR blaster (which can be surprisingly useful) and a noise cancellation mic. There is no speaker grill on the phone because Huawei has hidden the speaker within the USB Type-C port. And the sound is slightly suppressed while charging and running music simultaneously. If you are a fan of 3.5mm jack, then ok, is not happening!

Mate 20 Pro also matches its counterpart in relation to water and dust resistance. This IP68 is certified for dust and water resistance, which we had previously missed in the Huawei flagship.

For everyone, the design of Mate 20 Pro is actually a flagship-grade. It is a beautiful and bold mobile smartphone in every way.

Camera Performance

Camera is the most known aspect of Mate 20 Pro and why should not it be? This is primarily a similar leaked tune camera P20 Pro. However, this time the 20MP monochrome sensor has been replaced with wide-angle.

The phone has a triple rear camera system featuring 40MP sensor (f / 1.8 aperture), 20MP sensor (ultra wide angle 16mm lens, f / 2.2 aperture) and 8MP sensor (80mm 3x telephoto lens, f / 2.4). Aperture). The three-lens array is optionally stable, supports PDAF, contrast detection and laser autofocus systems.

Huawei, by default, distributes 10MP photos using pixel bins, where it combines information from four pixels to one. If you think you can still get 40MP shots by changing the default camera settings 40MP sensor works a lot more than you think. Huawei also uses it to make data 5X hybrid zoom in combination with telephoto lenses.

As far as mobile photography is concerned, the Mate 20 Pro competition is shining. It actually takes impressive shots whenever the situations are not really friendly. Actually impressive is how to get the right of metering constantly.

What’s changed in P20 Pro from Mate 20 Pro and, this is the master of Huawei AI. EMUI 9.0 with the Huawei Kirin 980’s Dual NPU has completely neutralized the master AI’s ambulance and has matured well. It can now detect more scenes and objects than before, and accordingly can turn colors and other aspects. Images shot with Master AI turn on the results, such that the pictures were fine in Lightroom or Snapseed. Auto mode can now automatically detect a person and switch to portrait mode, which usually works well. However, this does not allow you to adjust the blur manually.

Mate 20 Pro performed superb in night mode and this is one of the best part of its camera. It takes a bunch of shots in several exposures within a few seconds and then blends them into a single image defectively. The shooted images are clearly visible using night mode and show great dynamic range – even in rare cases when there is hardly any light available.

Normal point and shoot mode photo mode also has good low light shots. It includes 0.6 wide angle, 3X optical, 5X hybrid zoom, and 10X cropped zoom – all of which work in different conditions.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Selfie Camera is not the same as the rear camera. It’s not bad in any way; it does not really give results that can challenge Google pixels or Samsung Galaxy of the day. Regardless of the 24-megapixel sensor feature, it distributes selfie which is a bit soft for my choice.

In terms of videography, Mate 20 Pro can record up to 4K @ 30fps. It is important to highlight that OIS 1080p @ 30fps is not supported above. Yes, EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) is available up to 4K resolution. Interestingly, Huawei is offering real-time filters like Blur Background, Selective Colors and more. As far as the video quality is a Mate 20 Pro record, it is suitable for a fast 4K footage, for vlogging or for use in filming family video.

Performance and Software

Mate 20 Pro runs on the latest Android 9.0 pie-based EMUI 9. If you already have some experience with EMUI, then you should know that all apps are associated with a home screen by default. There are tons of features and aggressive RAM management in the interface. Well, EMUI 9 has been refined and customized to take advantage of high-end hardware.

On-screen navigation buttons, which can be swaped with gesture control, which do not inhibit the easiest and complete experience while using certain applications in particular. Regular knockout features of Huawei – knock down to take a screenshot or knock-slide to split the screen; everyone made it as a Mate 20 Pro.

While Google’s Digital Welling feature is currently limited to stock Android phones, Huawei has come up with its own ‘Digital Balance’ in EMUI 9.0. This feature gives you the ability to monitor your phone usage habits. The bedtime option, when turned on, mutes all screen colors after the scheduled time. Then password walt (save login details locally), private space (creates separate zones), save file (encrypts your file on local storage), smart support, wireless launch and more.

Mate 20 Pro is the best performing smartphone in the market today. The credit of the exquisite performances of this beautiful animal goes to the Kirin 980 SoC. This is, in fact, the world’s first 7nm mobile chipset. It has been packed with the new ARM Cortex-A76 core, four ARM Cortex-A53 core, the new Mali-G76 MP10 GPU and Dual NPUs. The chipset is with 6GB LPDD4X memory and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage.

Huawei’s GPU Turbo 2.0 debuts in EMUI 9.0 which is given on Mate 20 Pro. The company claims that there is less touch input latency and better performance in supported games. However, only half a dozen games support the turbo acceleration, and PUBG is one of them. Does this make the difference in the whole experience of gaming? Well, it’s hard to tell. Saying that, I played almost whole PUBG Mobile Season 4 on Mate 20 Pro and I had a great time with innocent performance. Overall, there is hardly anything to complain about the MAT 20 Pro display.

Battery and Charging

The MET 20 Pro is equipped with a 42,200mAh battery that you do not need to run the power outlet repeatedly in your day. Huvaway has bundled the Mate 20 Pro with the 40W supercharger, which can tank approximately 70 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes. During our testing, it took about an hour and ten minutes to go to the MET 20 Pro from zero to 100 percent.

And what’s interesting is that Mate 20 Pro Qi Wireless Charging is certified, and it also supports reverse wireless charging, which means that you can use the phone as a wireless charging pad and if necessary, other Qi supported Charge the phone again. This is not a feature you are using a lot of times but rather a very good technique, which you can think a lot about.

Conclusion: Is it Worth Buying?

Over the past year, I have seen many phones including Apple’s iPhone XS Max and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9. A phone that has left a lasting impression on me is Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This is a very charismatic phone which is almost perfect in every way.

Huawei rarely cut a corner It packs one of the best smartphone cameras in the market, an excellent OLED screen, impeccable building quality, spell design and the best-ever Kirin chipset. In fact, it has many novel features and the stuff is made of groundbreaking flagship.

Should You Buy Huawei Mate 20 Pro? Sure, if you are willing to spend the premium, then go ahead and buy Mate 20 Pro without any doubt. It is one of the best smartphones in the market today and truly is the most exciting thing of Huawei in India so far.ext.
